  • page 372: the rule! Rather like imperfective: use the nous form, drop -ons, add -ant. Then use it as an adjective!
  • Remember: the present participle -ant form is not an excuse to start using it as a conjugated verb with être as a helping verb!
  • This About page is really useful, with lots of examples of how to use the present participle.
  • Practice with pp. 372–373 Exs. 13, 14, 15.

You'll get five minutes to say everything you can about this work of art. CAH will expect you to recount to him what you say about the artwork in your written paragraph.   • Students may work in twos, threes, or fours.
  • Students must compose and perform a skit on camping using numerous items from Vocab List 7.1.
  • Each student must deliver at least six lines. (Yes, that means a trio will do a longer skit than a duo.)
  • For each camping-gear vocab word, you must have a prop or picture! You can use the pictures you drew in class last time. You can draw new pictures. You can bring in real objects (just not lighters or other items that can set people on fire or otherwise violate school policy).
  • Students perform without notes!

[55 minutes] Breakfast Skits!
  • Students in trios prepare brief skits about eating breakfast.
  • Two of the students must each say five lines.
  • Each line must contain at least one vocab word.
  • Third student doesn't have to say anything, but during skit, must hold up a card/paper with each word vocab as it is spoken!
  • Prepare for 40 minutes, present during last 15 minutes of this class period.
  • Each student who misses today should write his/her own skit along these lines and present that text to CAH upon returning to class. Live presentation is optional and contingent on finding willing partner

French 1: Tuesday March 5 2013 Lesson Plan

DUE: Les Devoirs: Write ten original sentences using the partitive and terms from Vocab 6.1.
  1. Each sentence should have a different subject (i.e., a different person eating or having or wanting something) and a different direct object (a different food being eaten or had or wanted).
  2. Pay attention to whether you need dude la, or des.
  3. Write two sentences in the negative, saying the subject doesn't want any of whatever you're talking about.
[10 minutes] Oral Warm-up! Students swap homework papers, read and translate each other's sentences. CAH checks homework during this time.
[20 minutes] Large group oral practice! CAH goes around twice. Each student reads a sentence from homework, and we check for proper use and understanding of the partitive.
  • In simplest terms, the partitive means some. In the negative, it means none or not any.
[35 minutes] New Grammar: -ir verb conjugation! p. 190!

  • The plural forms (the 4, 5, and 6) take an extra -iss before the normal ending (think: "I'll get ISS if I don't add that ending!")

  • Practice with these fun and exciting verbs taken from the amazing Dictionnaire Inverse: rougir, démolir, obéir, brandir, blondir, subir, vrombir, vomir!
