DUE: More Relative Pronoun Practice: Turn the following pairs of sentences into single sentences using pronoms relatifs: qui, que, dont!
Example 1: J'ai le roman. Tu veux le roman. >>> J'ai le roman que tu veux.
Example 2: Luke is the hero. The hero saved the turtle. >>> Luc est le héros qui a sauvé la tortue.

DUE:
  1. Do p. 229 Exs. 14 & 15. (As always, write complete sentences!)
  2. Write descriptions of two ideal outfits, two outfits that you like to wear.
    • Each outfit must include five items of clothing from Vocab List 7.1.
    • You must describe each item of clothing with an adjective.
    • Each outfit must go with a different season.
    • Use phrases like Je porte..., je voudrais porter....
{10 minutes} Vocab/Grammar warm-up! Translate the following commands, using imperative forms of porter:
  1. Wear your jeans! (tu)
  2. Wear your suit! (vous)
  3. Let's wear our boots!
  4. Wear your scarf! (tu)
  5. Wear your sunglasses! (vous)
  6. Let's wear our parkas!
  • All students write down translations; then pick six to write translations au tableau.
  • CAH checks homework during this time.
{20 minutes} Oral conversation practice: Students read their outfit sentences aloud; CAH asks questions, students respond.

{20 minutes} Grammar review: interrogative adjectives (quel): Students read p. 229 Exs. 14 & 15 aloud, compare sentences.

{20 minutes} Oral grammar practice with ce and quel:
  • CAH asks Quel/Quelle/Quels/Quelles ___ préfères-tu?
  • Students respond Je préfère ce/cet/cette/ces ____.
  • At halfway mark, switch order! Let students ask me quel.

French 2: Thursday April 26 Lesson Plan

DUE: Les posters de film! Each student creates a poster including the following (all entirely in French!):
  1. Title
  2. Names of actors/actresses,
  3. Name of director
  4. "Critics' comments" (you can make these up!) that would entice people to see this movie
  5. Appropriate images.
Posters may be paper or electronic; whatever format, students should be ready to present briefly on their posters.

{10 minutes} Verb practice! We did an -er verb last time (marcher), so let's do an -ir verb today! Finir en présent, passé composé, imparfait, et future... au tableau!

{5 minutes} Quick prep! Students make sure they are ready to comment on their posters and chosen films!

{45 minutes} Film poster presentations! 
  • Each student takes poster to front of room to speak for a half-minute on his/her movie.
  • After each presentation, other students will present questions. Each student must present at least two questions from the seats; each student at front must answer two.

{5 minutes} Oral Practice: Students read responses to Exercises 8 & 9 to each other, checking for agreement of ce/cet/cette/ces forms and adjectives!
  • CAH checks homework at this time.
{15 minutes} Written/Oral Practice: Students write Exs. 8 & 9 on board, we check for masculine/feminine and singular/plural agreement.

{30 minutes} New Grammar: Interrogative Adjectives! (quel/quelle/quels/quelles p. 228)
  • Recall some phrases we've already used: Quel âge as-tu? De quelle couleur? Quelle heure est-il? Quel jour est-ce que tu as français? Quelle taille? Quelle pointure?
  • We've used forms of quel before!
  • quel = which? what? or what!
  1. Quel foulard veux-tu? "Which scarf do you want?"
  2. Quelle est ta saison préférée? "What is your favorite season?"
  3. Quelle belle fille! "What a beautiful girl!" Quels beaux garçons! "What handsome boys!"
  • Note that our friend Qu'est-ce que means "what"... but we use it a little differently from quel:

  • Each student thinks up a sentence about movies or books that in English would use who, whom, which, that, or whose as a relative pronoun.
  • Students write those sentences on board (with name!), say aloud for group.

  • If in doubt, look up conjugations in back of book (R24–R25!) or on WordReference.com's verb conjugator.

{25 minutes} New Voacb Practice: Do pp. 224–225 Exs. 3, 1, 2, and 4 together.

{20 minutes} La Nouvelle Grammaire: Demonstrative Adjective! p. 226
  • this and that = ce/cet, cette
  • these and those = ces
  • notice: ce becomes cet when it comes right before a word that starts with a vowel: cet anorak, cet ami.
    • But watch out! This rule does not mean that you always use cet with masculine nouns that start with vowels! You say cet homme, but if an adjective intervenes, and that adjective starts with a consonant, cet goes back to ce: ce grand homme. And if you have a noun that starts with a consonant but then stick an adjective that starts with a vowel in front of it, ce becomes cet: cet ancien médecin.
  • new vocab: I read form with definite article, students respond with proper demonstrative adjective

  1. Write all movie and novel words in pictures and in D'autres mots utiles four times. Wherever possible, include the name of a film, novel, or person who is an example of the term!
  2. Write all Entre copains terms (p. 312) four times.
  3. Write all Exprimons-nous! phrases (pp. 311 and 313) three times.
{10 minutes} Vocab Warm-up! Students trio up, one student gives vocab word from 310–311, other students give their examples. e.g.: Élève 1 dit, "Un film de science-fiction"; les autres deux disent, "The Wrath of Khan! The Matrix!"
  • CAH checks homework for points during this time!
{20 minutes} Vos films et romans préférés
  • Students get three minutes to think of their favorite film and their favorite book and one sentence explaining why they like them so much.
  • First practice in trios, "Quel est ton film préféré? Mon film préféré est ___, parce que.... Quel est ton roman préféré? Mon roman préféré est ___, parce que...."
  • Then all students present answers to class.
