[30 minutes] Vocabulary Practice!

• Dangereux ou non? 
• Pick your favorite animal from this list and describe it.
• Each student uses Exprimons-nous from p. 189 to say something about the animals!

[30 minutes] Grammar Review: The Verb Quiz!

• Do charts again! present, past, imperfect, future, conditional.
• Students translate sentences both directions.

[30 minutes] Vocabulary Practice! Écoutez et répétez!

{60 minutes} Work time for movie posters!

Les Devoirs: Les posters de film! Each student creates a poster including the following (all entirely in French!):

1. Title
2. Names of actors/actresses,
3. Name of director
4. "Critics' comments" (you can make these up!) that would entice people to see this movie
5. Appropriate images.

See some classic French movie posters by Hervé Morvan!

Students should have the text for their posters ready to show me on Monday. Students should have their complete posters ready for Wednesday, Feb. 20, as well as a few words to say about those films!

French 3: Friday February 15 2013 Lesson Plan

[30 minutes] Grammar Quiz: 5 Verb Tenses!

• Students should be able to conjugate verbs in five tenses: present, past, imperfect, future, and conditional.
• Students should be able to translate sentences using these five tenses from French to English and English to French.

[10 minutes] Finish reading and translating pp. 170–179 aloud!

[20 minutes] Introduce New Vocab: 5.1! pp. 186–189

French 1: Thursday February 14 2013 Lesson Plan

DUE: Les Devoirs:

1. Finish your travel slideshows, be prepared to present Thursday
2. Write 8 French mini-dialogues of this form:
• "Are you going to do X?" (use aller + infinitive for futur proche!)
• "I just did X." (use venir de + infinitive for passé récent!)
• Each dialogue must use a different verb for "X" (chanter, étudier..., faire...).

Let's review those slideshow criteria:

Present a slideshow depicting your ideal travel itinerary for the year... tout en français!. Minimum six slides:

1. First slide: Your name, plus a title.
2. Second slide: Spring destination, weather, and two activities
3. Third slide: Summer destination, weather, and two activities
4. Fourth slide: Fall destination, weather, and two activities
5. Fifth slide: Winter destination, weather, and two activities
6. Sixth slide: Summary of trip

• All slides must have images and French text (at least five words, but no more than ten)!
• When you talk about talk about the weather and the activities you are going to do, phrase them in the futur proche (p. 166): e.g., for your summer trip, you may say, Il va faire beau. Nous allons aller à la plage (allons aller means "we're going to go"). For your winter trip, you may say Il va neiger (note use of infinitive form neiger instead of conjugated for neige). Nous allons faire du snowboard.
• DUE today, Feb. 12: text of slides.
• DUE next time, Feb. 14: slides to present in class!

• CAH grades on meeting the above criteria (no English on slides or out of mouth!), plus pronunciation and preparation (knowing what you are going to say, being able to talk to us instead of staring at your own slides).

[25 minutes] Grammar Practice: venir! p. 168

• Students pair up: Student 1 asks one of the questions that Student 1 wrote in the future (using aller + infinitive!) for the homework; Student 2 answers with a sentence like the homework asked for saying so-and-so just did the action Student 1 asked about (venir de + infinitive!). Go back and forth this way through as many of the 8 questions on each student's homework as time allows.
• CAH checks homework during this time.
• Then each student writes one of her/his mini-dialogues au tableau! Review together!

[25 minutes] Oral Quiz Practice!

• CAH leads large-group drill on Chapter 5 Oral Quiz questions.

[15 minutes] Vocabulary Review! Vocab 5.2, pp. 162–165 & 170

• Students drill each other face à face!
• Don't forget the avoir idioms on p. 170!

Les Devoirs: rien! But study hard for Vocab Quiz 5.2 on Tuesday and the Grammar and Oral Quizzes on Thursday!

French 2: Wednesday February 13 2013 Lesson Plan

• Know how to translate sentences into French using reflexive verbs (present tense, past tense, and commands).
• Know how to use tout, toute, tous, and toutes.

• while not quizzing, students study the new vocab list, 9.1, as chosen by the student vocab survey!

Les Devoirs: Write all vocab words and phrases from List 9.1 (pp. 322–325) four times

French 3: Wednesday February 13 2013 Lesson Plan

DUE: Les Devoirs: Write 15 original sentences using the verbs savoir, pouvoir, devoir, vouloir, and voir. Write the sentences in this order:

• 3 in present
• 3 in passé composé
• 3 in imperfect
• 3 in future
• 3 in conditional

[40 minutes] Verb Practice: au tableau! 

• We'll go in five rounds: first savoir sentences, then pouvoir, devoir, vouloir, and voir. 
• Divide board into five columns, one for each of the tenses!
• CAH checks homework for completion during first round on board .
• Then, practice quiz! CAH dictates five sentences in English, students translate into French, then five sentences in French into English.

[50 minutes] Reading aloud! Students read their pages aloud, then their translations.

DUE: rien! mais étudiez comme fou pour l'examen de grammaire:

1. Be able to conjugate any verb I give you in the five tenses: préesent, passé composé inparfait, futur simple, et conditionnel!
2. Be able to translate sentences from English to French and French to English, recognizing proper verb tense.

• Each student goes to board to write two sentences: tell us that we are going somewhere and that we are going to do something there (en français).
• CAH checks homework during this time.
• Then CAH shows how to put the weather phrases in future tense.

[20 minutes] New Verb: venir!

1. venir can be used to mean "to come":
   • Robert vient à la fête. = Robert coming to the party.
   • Vous venez à la plage? = Are you coming to the beach?
2. venir can also be used in a grammatical way to mean "something just happened": 
• Je viens de jouer au foot = I just played soccer. 
• Les viennent de finir leurs devoirs. = The girls just finished their homework.
