Tentative Student Numbers for AY2012-2013

We have numbers on students who have signed up for French classes next year:

French I: 66
French II: 41
French III: 23

These numbers will fluctuate some as the Guidance Office pieces together schedules for all of you. However, if these numbers hold, we can expect three sections of French 1, two sections of French 2, and one section of French 3. If the schedule works out smoothly, we'll see about 20 students in each block.

French 2: Wednesday February 29 Lesson Plan

Note: Maroon Block 2 gets special guest appearance by Marion Veauvy, French exchange student at BHSU!

DUE: Write all Vocab 5.2 words four times.

{20 minutes} Oral practice

Students respond to CAH questions using vocab (use quand, aimer...)

Students read quietly to themselves for 5 minutes.
Read through twice, first time with no stop or dictionary, second time lookup allowed.
Then we read aloud in class, respond to Et Toi? questions.

French 1: Tuesday February 28 Lesson Plan

DUE: pp. 164–165 Exs. 21 and 24

Ex. 21: write complete sentences!
Ex. 24: highlight each Vocab 5.2 word/phrase you use!

{10 minutes} Oral Practice

In groups of four, students practice reading their Exercise 24 e-mails to each other, emphasizing Vocab 5.2 words and phrases. Make sure all of those vocab words are highlighted!
Get ready to read these e-mails out loud to the class!
CAH checks homework during this time.

{40 minutes} Oral presentation!

Students read Exercise 24 e-mails out loud to class.
Each time student reaches a highlighted Vocab 5.2 word, student raises the question mark card, stops, and waits for another student to offer definition. We'll go around the room in order to give these vocab answers.

{10 minutes} aller and the futur proche (the near future)

conjugate aller! to go!
Going practice: CAH asks "Vas-tu au cinéma ce soir?" Students answer with "Je vais" or Je ne vais pas."
Future practice: CAH asks "Tu vas faire quoi samedi?" Students answer "Je vais..." plus an infinitive verb!

Make-up work: All students who did not present the photo assignment last time do it and present this time! See February 24 lesson plan!

{30 minutes} Listening/Speaking Practice!

CAH asks, "Où est-ce que tu aimes aller?"
Students respond, "J'aime aller à la/au..." with one of our 5.2 Vocab words!
CAH asks, "Quel temps fait-il aujourd'hui/en hiver/en été/etc.?"
Students respond with approp. weather phrase.
CAH asks "Tu vas faire quoi samedi?"
Students respond with approp. phrase from p. 165
CAH asks "Ça va?"
Students respond with avoir idiom (p. 170)

{45 minutes} Question and answer practice!

Students work in pairs!
Find a really good picture of somebody doing something on the Internet.
Write six questions about the photo using the following queries:

Qui...?
Qu'est-ce que...?
Quand...?
Où...?
Pourquoi...?
Comment...?
Quel temps fait-il?
...or any other relevant question you (not Google Translate) can think of!

Write answers to each of those questions.
Practice saying those questions and answers
You get 30 minutes to write and practice, 15 minutes for all to present!
Present Q&A skit to class with picture on Smart Board! One person poses questions, other person answers! (Yes, you may use scripts.)

Reflexive Verb Practice: Write ten original sentences using reflexive verbs pertaining to the morning routine.

Whenever possible, include a phrase starting with avec and specifying a word from Vocab List 5.1!
e.g.: Je ne me rase jamais avec mon rasoir électrique.
Chapter 4 Grammar Review: Translate the following sentences into French (see pp. 124 and 136 for assistance!):

Michel has been here for nine hours.
For nine years, we've been playing tennis.
Richard lost nothing.
Marcel only ate five candies?
Nobody listened to Sylvie.
Somebody is bothering the cat.
The printer did something.
Nobody saw anything.

{15 minutes} Review Chapter 4 Grammar sentences au tableau!

{25 minutes} Review original morning routine sentences!

Each student reads five sentences aloud!

{5 minutes} Reveillez-vous les cerveaux! Put the following trios of reflexive verbs in the proper chronological order (i.e., what would you do first, then second, then third?). Then when you're done, read your order to a neighbor, see if you agree!

{20 minutes} Review homework on the board!

Students put their sentences on board.
Other students follow to change subjects!
Other students follow to negate the reflexives!

{25 minutes} Review Chapter 4 Grammar Quiz! (quelqu'un, quelque chose, ne... personne, ne... rien, ne... que; depuis, il y a... que, ça fait... que)

Review each class's quiz sentences on the board.
Ask students to change parts of each sentence aloud.
