French 3 Oral Final Exam May 2013

The French 3 Oral Final Exam will consist of two parts.

In Part 1, CAH will ask you as many questions from the following list as possible. CAH may skip questions and change their order. You must answer each question with at least one complete sentence. You should also be prepared to answer any follow-up questions that CAH may logically construct from your responses to these questions.

CAH will administer the Oral Final Exam in ten-minute one-on-one interviews with each student May 14–May 17 and May 20–23. Oral Final Exams will take place before school, during lunch, during Spartan Time, after school, and during other times when CAH is available. Most exams will take place at SHS; CAH will also hold exam appointments downtown at Common Grounds on Thursday, May 16, and Tuesday, May 21 from 16:30 to 19:00. Students are responsible for signing up for their own exam appointment times on the master schedule in CAH's classroom and for remembering to show up at their chosen times.

French 2: Chapter 5 Oral Quiz

Chapter 5 Oral Quiz! Wednesday, February 13!

On Wednesday, February 13, I will ask you one of these two questions:

Qu'est-ce que tu as fait hier soir? OR
Qu'est-ce que tu as fait ce matin?

You will answer by stating three things that you did, using vocab from Chapter 5. I will then ask a follow-up question to your response. I may ask whether you did another activity; I may ask what you did before or after what you mentioned; I may ask pourquoi? about the activities you mentioned. You need to answer in a complete sentence, not just oui or non.

I will then give you four commands based on the verbs in Chapter 5. You will respond not by speaking but by acting out the action commanded. Possible commands:

lève-toi
réveille-toi
couche-toi
endors-toi
brosse-toi les dents
brosse-toi les cheveux
peigne-toi
coiffe-toi
habille-toi
déshabille-toi (remember, mime it, don't actually do it!)
lave-toi les mains
lave-toi la figure
lave-toi les cheveux

sèche-toi les mains

sèche-toi les yeux*
maquille-toi avec le rouge à levres

*Think about what I'm asking here!

You then ask me two questions—not ça va or comment tu t'appelles or anything else to which you already know the answer, but preferably questions related to Chapter 5 vocabulary. I will respond en français; you will prove you understand my response (probably by translating my statement back into English).

Friday's Oral Exams Move to Wednesday January 16

Friday's snow day means no French oral exams today. All students who signed up for oral exams for today, Friday, January 11, will come take their oral exams on Wednesday, January 16. Here's my schedule:

Block 1 (08:15–09:48): French 3 White 3 Written Exam (no orals)
Block 2 (09:54–11:24): French 1 White 4 Written Exam (no orals)
Lunch, Block 3, Block 4, after school (11:30–16:30): Oral Exams

On Monday, I will put up a sign-up sheet for the times I have available on Wednesday, January 16. Update 2013.01.14 08:45 MST: I have assigned exam times based on Friday's order to it into 12-minute slots during my available times on Wednesday. If you want to trade with someone, you may do so, but both parties must agree to switch times.

You must complete your oral exam by the end of the day Wednesday. I will give no oral exams after the end of the semester.

French 1: Quarter 1 Oral Interview Quiz

CAH meets students individually in the hall. Students will respond in complete French sentences to the following questions:

Quel âge as-tu?
Qu’est-ce que tu aimes faire?
Où est-ce que tu aimes étudier?
Qui est ton meilleur ami/ta meilleure amie? Il/elle est comment?
Comptez jusqu’à 100 par dizaines (count to 100 by tens!).

Students will then ask CAH one question in French. (CAH will reject Ça va, comment tu t'appelles, and other simple, obvious questions.) CAH will answer in French, and students will translate that answer back to English to prove they understood what he said.

Friday Oral Exams Postponed! Schedule Your Make-up Time!

Mes élèves! Je suis très désolé! I had to step out early today (Friday) due to illness; thus, all oral exams scheduled for today have been postponed!

Semester grades are due Wednesday, January 18, at 8 a.m. We will get all of these quizzes done in time to meet that deadline. I will be available to give you the oral quiz at the following times and places:

Saturday, January 14, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Spearfish Public Library.
~~Sunday, January 15~~ Update: cancelled! Public library is closed this Sunday!
Monday, Janaury 16 (in-service day), 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., my classroom.
Tuesday, January 17, 8:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., and 3:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., my classroom.

I'm no more fond of working on the weekend than you are, but we need to get these tests done by the end of the school day Tuesday. We can get these tests done in the times above, but you cannot all wait until Tuesday after school.
