DUE: Les posters de film! Each student creates a poster including the following (all entirely in French!):

  4. "Critics' comments" (you can make these up!) that would entice people to see this movie
  5. Appropriate images.
Posters may be paper or electronic; whatever format, students should be ready to present briefly on their posters.

{10 minutes} Verb practice! We did an -er verb last time (marcher), so let's do an -ir verb today! Finir en présent, passé composé, imparfait, et future... au tableau!

{5 minutes} Quick prep! Students make sure they are ready to comment on their posters and chosen films!

  • this and that = ce/cet, cette
  • these and those = ces
  • notice: ce becomes cet when it comes right before a word that starts with a vowel: cet anorak, cet ami.
    • But watch out! This rule does not mean that you always use cet with masculine nouns that start with vowels! You say cet homme, but if an adjective intervenes, and that adjective starts with a consonant, cet goes back to ce: ce grand homme. And if you have a noun that starts with a consonant but then stick an adjective that starts with a vowel in front of it, ce becomes cet: cet ancien médecin.

  7. Are you (familiar) choosing the music?
  8. No, we are choosing the music.

  • CAH asks "Qu'est-ce que tu aimes manger?" Students respond, CAH follows up as possible.
{20 minutes} New irregular verbs: prendre! (p. 200)
  • prendre conjugates like its related forms apprendre, comprendre, reprendre
  • Sure, they're -re verbs (see the regular -re conjugation on p. 116), but they drop the -d- in the plural forms!
    • je prends, tu prends, il/elle prend... but...
    • nous prenons, vous prenez, ils/elles prennent
  • Do p. 200 Ex. 29 together.
  • Assign students to write short sentences on board: mix and match subjects with these four verbs, plus appropriate direct objects (food for prendre/reprendre, language for apprendre/comprendre)

  1. For next time (mercredi, le 11 avril): pp. 200–201 Exs. 30 & 31. Write the prompts and your responses!
  2. For the meeting after that (vendredi, le 13 avril): Prepare le théâtre du restaurant—a restaurant skit!
    • Students may work in pairs or trios (no quartets! no quintets! Pas de plus!).
    • One student plays a serveur/serveuse; other plays client/cliente.
    • Skit must include...
      1. greeting
      2. ordering food and beverage (with at least one recommendation from server)
      3. server reading back the orders to make sure he/she has them right
      4. conversation between clients while waiting for meals to arrive (if only one client, then yes, you talk to yourself, making observations about the restaurant, the server, the weather... perhaps pretending to converse with someone you recognize at another table...)
      5. delivery and consumption of meals
      6. handling the check

French 2: Wednesday April 4 Lesson Plan

Note: make-up times for Vocab Quiz 7.1 are Wednesday (today!) 14:15, 14:45, and 15:20! With the large number of people who missed Monday, we need to do these quizzes at set times to get as many people done at once as possible.

DUE: Vocab 7.2 Writing/Drawing Practice!

  1. Write all new vocab words in Exprimons-nous and D'autres mots utiles on p. 247 four times.
  2. Write all new vocab words in the pictures on pp. 246–247 three times and draw a picture representing each vocab word next to each vocab word.

{20 minutes} Grammar Practice: more imperfect vs. past tense (l'imparfait vs. le passé composé!)
  • Students work in pairs
  • Students pick four verbs from this chapter (see p. 265 for both vocab lists).
  • One student writes four sentences using those verbs in the straight past tense.
  • The other student writes the same four sentences but puts the verb in the imperfect.
  • After all finish, each pair reads a pair of its sentences aloud.
Les Devoirs: L'histoire d'aventure!
  • Each student writes a short story about an adventure in nature.
  • Minimum ten sentences (and for Pierre's sake, don't write your story in English and then plunk it into Google Translate!)
  • Every sentence must use vocab from Chapter 7 (highlight those words!)
  • Story must be complete and ready to read aloud next class period!

French 1: Tuesday April 3 Lesson Plan

DUE: Write twenty original sentences using vouloir:
  1. The first ten sentences must use different subjects, different nouns from Vocab 6.1 as direct objects, and the partitive: Je veux du/de la/des... ("I want some...").
  2. The next ten sentences may use any subject (though never the same subject twice in a row) and any direct object (noun or infinitive verb); in other words, you can say that so-and-so wants a thing or that so-and-so wants to do something.
{25 minutes} Vocab Quiz 6.1 (pp. 184, 185, 187, 189)

{10 minutes} Make up all remaining breakfast skits!

{10 minutes} Go over vouloir sentences: students read aloud!
